Link the following sentences using a relative pronoun:

Choose between QUI – QUE – OĂ™ – DONT:

👉 Voici l’appartement. Tu m’as parlĂ© de cet appartement.

Use a pronoun to make one sentence and avoid repeating the word appartement.

👉 Voici l’appartement . . . tu m’as parlĂ© de.

Which relative pronoun is the best choice? A big clue is the little word de that’s left dangling at the end of the sentence. You can’t leave it there, but you can’t just get rid of it either.

👉 Voici l’appartement dont tu m’as parlĂ©.

Were you tempted to use que to connect the sentences and replace appartement that way? The reason why que is not correct is because you still need to make sure de is taken care of. The pronoun dont does that.

👉 Literal translation: Here is the apartment (of which) you spoke to me.

👉 Alternate translation: Here is the apartment (that) you talked to me about.
