French Subjunctive vs Indicative

Subjunctive or Indicative Expression List

Decide whether you need the subjunctive or the indicative in the following sentence:

👉 Il est possible que je te (dire) non.

When you begin a sentence with Il est possible que, you must follow up with a subject and verb in the subjunctive.

To form the subjunctive, begin with the present tense indicative form of dire.

👉 ILS DISENT

Take off -ent to find the subjunctive stem.

👉 DIS-

Add the correct ending for je.

👉 Il est possible que je te dise non.

👉 Translation: It is possible that I tell you no. / I may tell you no.
