Expressing French Feelings and Emotions

The easiest way to talk about feelings in French is to use the verb être followed by one of the adjectives on the list below. Remember to make the adjectives agree in number and gender with the person being described.  You can download a PDF of this lesson guide in my private French Grammar Library.

I am annoyed.

Je suis énervé(e).

Je suis…Nous sommes…
Tu es…Vous êtes…
Il est…Elle est…On est…Ils sont…Elles sont…

You can also use the verb se sentir to express how someone feels.  This is a reflexive verb, so be sure to use reflexive pronouns as shown in the chart below. 

I feel annoyed.

Je me sens énervé(e).

Je me sens…Nous nous sentons…
Tu te sens…Vous vous sentez…
Il se sent…Elle se sent…On se sent…Ils se sentent…Elles se sentent…
