French B1 Level Pronouns and Tenses Translation Exercises

This is a translation exercise which focuses on using different tenses or verbal constructions and pronouns at the B1 level. Look for the answer key at the bottom of this page. Don’t worry if your translations aren’t exactly like mine. Look for essential grammar mistakes rather than choice of vocabulary. Click here to see a B2 level translation exercise.


Translate the sentences below using the following tenses or verbal constructions:

  • PRÉSENT:
    • you’re doing something now
  • VENIR DE / VENIR JUSTE DE:
    • you’ve just done something
  • ÊTRE SUR LE POINT DE:
    • you’re just about to do something
  • FUTUR PROCHE:
    • you’re going to do something in the near future
  • PASSÉ COMPOSÉ:
    • you did something
  • IMPARFAIT:
    • you used to do something
  • FUTUR SIMPLE:
    • you will do something
  • CONDITIONNEL:
    • you would do something
  • PLUS-QUE-PARFAIT:
    • you had done something
  • CONDITIONNEL PASSÉ:
    • you would have done something
  • FUTUR ANTÉRIEUR:
    • you will have done something

The first sentence has underlined words. Translate the sentences replacing the underlined words with a pronoun:

  • ME – TE – NOUS – VOUS:
    • direct or indirect object pronouns
  • LE – LA – LES:
    • direct object pronouns
  • LUI – LEUR:
    • indirect object pronouns
  • Y:
    • pronoun that usually means THERE
  • EN:
    • pronoun that often means SOME
