Use the French verb être to say where you are:
| Je suis en France. | I am in France. |
| Tu es au Canada. | You are in Canada. |
| Il est aux États-Unis. | He is in the United States. |
| Elle est en Australie. | She is in Australia. |
| On est au Japon. | We are in Japan. |
| Nous sommes aux Pays-Bas. | We are in the Netherlands. |
| Vous êtes au Maroc. | You are in Morocco. |
| Ils sont en Espagne. | They are in Spain. |
| Elles sont en Italie. | They are in Italy. |
When you’re in a country…
| en France | in France |
| au Canada | in Canada |
| aux États-Unis | in the United States |
| en Australie | in Australia |
| au Japon | in Japan |
| aux Pays-Bas | in the Netherlands |
| au Maroc | in Morocco |
| en Espagne | in Spain |
| en Italie | in Italy |
| Je ne suis pas en France. | I am not in France. |
| Tu n’es pas au Canada. | You are not in Canada. |
| Il n’est pas aux États-Unis. | He is not in the United States. |
| Elle n’est pas en Australie. | She is not in Australia. |
| On n’est pas au Japon. | We are not in Japan. |
| Nous ne sommes pas aux Pays-Bas. | We are not in the Netherlands. |
| Vous n’êtes pas au Maroc. | You are not in Morocco. |
| Ils ne sont pas en Espagne. | They are not in Spain. |
| Elles ne sont pas en Italie. | They are not in Italy. |
| Je suis à la boulangerie. | I am at the bakery. |
| Tu es au café. | You are at the café. |
| Il est aux Halles. | He is at Les Halles. (the indoor covered market) |
| Elle est à la librairie. | She is at the bookstore. |
| On est au restaurant. | We are at the restaurant. |
| Nous sommes à l’école. | We are at school. |
| Vous êtes au parc. | You are at the park. |
| Ils sont à la piscine. | They are at the pool. |
| Elles sont aux toilettes. | They are in the bathroom. |
| Je suis fâché(e). | I am angry (mad). |
| Tu es énervé(e). | You are annoyed. |
| Il est ravi. | He is delighted. |
| Elle est fatiguée. | She is tired. |
| On est heureux/ heureuses. | We are happy. |
| Nous sommes pressé(e)s. | We are in a hurry. |
| Vous êtes triste(s). | You are sad. |
| Ils sont nerveux. | They are nervous. |
| Elles sont inquiètes. | They are worried. |
| être en bonne santé | to be in good health |
| être de bonne humeur | to be in a good mood |
| être en retard | to be late |
| être en avance | to be early |
| être à l’aise | to be comfortable |
| être à la retraite | to be retired |
| être en danger | to be in danger |
| être au régime | to be on a diet |
| être en train de + infinitive | to be in the process of + infinitive |
| Je suis en bonne santé. | I am in good health. |
| Tu es de bonne humeur. | You are in a good mood. |
| Il est en retard. | He is late. |
| Elle est en avance. | She is early. |
| On est à l’aise. | We are comfortable. |
| Nous sommes à la retraite. | We are retired. |
| Vous êtes en danger. | You are in danger. |
| Ils sont au régime. | They are on a diet. |
| Elles sont en train de travailler. | They are in the process of working. |
With negation…
| Je ne suis pas en bonne santé. | I am not in good health. |
| Tu n’es pas de bonne humeur. | You are not in a good mood. |
| Il n’est pas en retard. | He is not late. |
| Elle n’est pas en avance. | She is not early. |
| On n’est pas à l’aise. | We are not comfortable. |
| Nous ne sommes pas à la retraite. | We are not retired. |
| Vous n’êtes pas en danger. | You are not in danger. |
| Ils ne sont pas au régime. | They are not on a diet. |
| Elles ne sont pas en train de travailler. | They are not in the process of working. |
