Everything about the French TOUT

«Tout» has many forms, and can be used as an adjective, and adverb, a noun, and as a pronoun. The following chart includes examples of everything you need to know about the French «tout».

(very)

When it modifies masculine adjectives (singular or plural), tout is invariable.

Tout is also invariable before feminine adjectives (singular or plural) that begin with a vowel / mute h.
Tout droit

Tout doucement 

Ils sont tout tristes. 

La pizza
tout entière

Elle est tout heureuse. 
 C’est une toute petite fille.

Elle est toute honteuse.

EXCEPTION

When feminine adjectives are singular, tout becomes toute but only when the adjectives begin with a consonant / aspirated H.
Elles sont toutes fières.

Elles sont toutes honteuses.
