French Vocabulary List – L’avenir – The Future

When we imagine l’avenir, we think about time — un siècle, une décennie, maybe even un millénaire. We wonder what will change: Will la science and le progrès bring amélioration and longer espérance de vie? Or will les ressources dwindle, la flore suffer, and les inégalités grow worse?

Talking about the future in French means using words that help us explore big ideas — from le climat and les transports to l’agriculture and la maladie. It’s about imagining what we can construire, what we might détruire, and how each génération can prendre soin of our world.

In this post, we’ll dive into useful vocabulary for discussing the future, along with themes like la science, le savoir, and how to avoir confiance (or sometimes avoir peur) when we think about tomorrow.
