French Demonstrative Adjectives

Use demonstrative adjectives when you want to say:  THIS, THAT, THESE, THOSE

Like all French adjectives, they must agree with nouns in number and gender. 

Demonstrative adjectives replace articles, and they come right before the nouns they modify.

Here are the French demonstrative adjectives

cemasculine
singular
ce garçon
this / that boy

ce stylo
this / that pen

ce téléphone
this / that telephone
cetmasculine
singular
begins with a vowel or H
cet homme
this / that man

cet hĂŽtel
this / that hotel

cet ami
this / that friend
cettefeminine
singular
cette femme
this / that woman

cette maison
this / that house

cette ville
this / that city
cesmasculine or feminine
plural
ces stylos
these / those pens

ces voitures
these / those cars

ces villes
these / those cities

Demonstrative adjectives in French can mean either THIS or THAT, and THESE or THOSE.  What if you want to differentiate between the two as we do in English?  

Use the same words and follow the same rules as explained above, but add -LÀ or -CI to the noun in question.
