Did you know? Tornadoes hardly ever occur in France, even though there are sometimes strong gales! Located in a cooler area and with less heavy air, the northwestern regions of France have a lower average number of thunderstorms than the rest of the country, with 12 to 16 days of thunderstorms per year in general. The regions located between Poitou and Flanders, passing through the Paris region, are at the limit with an annual average of 16 to 20 days. The Gulf of Lion has the fewest thunderstorms with an average of 16 to 22 days of thunderstorms per year. However, thunderstorms can be stronger in these regions with the proximity of the Mediterranean and its supply of mild and humid air!
